Celebrate the joy of new life with friends, family, and community. Using the framework of our tradition, we welcome the new spirit into our community with a heartfelt naming ceremony. It is an opportunity for us to reflect on what it is that we value in our own Jewish identity that we then wish to pass onto our precious newborn. In one way or another, this comes back to community, a sense of belonging, of shared history and our sense of destiny.

But it is also when we remember the founder of our tradition, Abraham. The person who exhibited exceptional compassion and  kindness to his fellows. Who prioritised humanity over God. Who challenges even God to hold by moral principles.

We welcome the baby not with complicated words but with soulful sounds of song, some solemn, but mostly upbeat to reflect the ecstasy of the moment.
